Year 2024 Changes/Updates are listed below:
September 12: one of my favorite tunes from a memorable and fun John Wayne movie added at the top of the Old Corral homepage. September 7: added a video interview of Dan White on his page in the Villains section. September 4: feeling better and doing some work on the website. But my main goal is exercising my replacement left hip, and doing 1500 - 2000 steps a day down my driveway and sidewalk. Just paid the annual bill to keep the Old Corral website running through September, 2025. And thanks to the folks who e-mailed me with Get Well wishes during my lousy Summer of 2024. August 6: still in recovery mode from hip replacement and other issues. Not much time or energy for the website. My main activity is exercising with some hand weights ... and doing lots of walking. Couple observations: Simone Biles is amazing ... and hip replacement therapy is a lot of work and not much fun. July 29: am back tinkering with the Old Corral after about eight weeks AWOL. Had some medical issues including a thyroid problem and a pacemaker installed. Then I took a tumble in the garage and broke my left hip. Then came a hip replacement ... and therapy which will continue for several months ... and hurts. A wild and crazy Summer. Tuff being old as dirt. May 31: busy day yesterday. Had a pacemaker installed. Am back to receiving e-mails. Can't drive for two weeks. Two of my wonderful grandkids are gonna live with me during that period. May 13: my medical problems continue and have had a gazillion tests and scans in the last couple days. Please refrain from e-mailing me. May 7: Couple of kickstarter funding projects started. One is a book on prolific directors and producers Sam Newfeld and his brother Sig Neufeld. The other is a couple Tom Tyler silent westerns on BLU-Ray and DVD. Links in the upper right on the Old Corral homepage. May 5: am back on the computer. Appears my medical issue is a thyroid problem. E-mails are OK to send me. April 29: my medical issues continue. Going in for lots of tests. Please don't send me any e-mails. April 27: another Mystery for you to solve and link is on the Old Corral homepage. April 22: updated the Lost and Missing Westerns page. Couple of reels of Buffalo Bill Jr.'s TRAILS OF ADVENTURE (1933) were found. April 11: major update to Harry Worth in the Villains and Character players. April 7: sorry for no new things or updates in a while. But my lousy sinuses and arthritis have done bad things to my sleep pattern. Working on some stuff ... slowly. January 8: updated Rod Cameron in the Heroes section. During Christmas and New Years, I re-watched some Cameron films. A big and tall galoot, he did B oaters, A grade westerns, serials, and lots of television. An under-appreciated hero of the 1940s and 1950s. January 3: on the right side of the Old Corral homepage are some DVD and Blu-Ray covers of serials available from the Serial Squadron. January 2: on the right side of the Old Corral homepage, added a link to the Internet Archive and their collection of colorized movies. My treat and I consider it a worthwhile expenditure to keep the B western memories alive. August 18: Roy Rogers first starrer was UNDER WESTERN STARS (Republic, 1938). There's more about this in Roy Rogers and Trigger in Trusty Steeds - Movie Horses. August 10: updated Caryl Lincoln in the Heroines. She did silent westerns with Tom Mix and Rex Bell, and some 1930s oaters with Tyler, McCoy, Steele, others. August 5: major update to Stanley Price in the Villains & Supporting Players section. June 18: recovering from covid which I came down with soon after putting the Noah Beery Sr. bio online. Got the second Covid booster shot a few months ago, and that was a good decision. Lots of painting and yardwork ... and the 4 grandkids (aged 1 year - 6 years) have kept us busy. There was also never-ending storms in the Chicago/Northwest Indiana area, and we did lose power and cable TV/internet a few times when tree limbs came down and knocked out those services. We have one of those NOAA weather radios, and have never experienced so many weather bulletins, storm warnings, and tornado watches/warnings. I was hopin' to get back doing Old Corral updates around the first of August. But on August 4, a batch of tornadoes ripped through our little town. Very little damage to our place, but a bit north of us was devastated. We were busy helping neighbors and friends with cleanup and other assorted duties. Things quieted down a bit ... until about 20 inches of rain arrived during September 11-13. Saturday, September 13 was the real deluge as the remnants of Hurricane Ike slowly moved through the Midwest. Again, we were lucky and had no damage. Our two sons, who live nearby, had water up to their front and back steps, streets were impassable, and it was the following Tuesday-Wednesday before the water began to subside. Some friends and acquaintences had their basements completely flooded and water came up 1-2 feet into their first floor. So here we are in late September, and I'm slowly working through hundreds of e-mails and trying to figure out where to start on the Old Corral catchup. Just thought I'd let you know what's happenin'. The back problems which have been with me for years re-occurred about a month ago, and I was out of action for about 2 weeks. Back is doing OK now. But on September 13, a moonsoon rain arrived in Northwest Indiana. Got 8 inches in 2 hours and lots more that day. My house is on a slight hill, so all I saw was water about half-way up my front lawn. But scores of houses and businesses got flooded out. Homes had 5-6 feet of water in their basements and everything was destroyed. So, I've been helping out. Some "PC words of wisdom": if you have your PC in the basement, and its sitting on the floor - move it to a desk, table, shelf; keep track of your logins and passwords to your Internet provider, bank, charge card accounts, etc.; buy a USB hard drive or use the CD/DVD writer on your PC to backup your Word files, picture files, etc. I've got dozens and dozens of e-mails sitting in my inbox and no time to answer. I'll get to 'em. September 6: sorry for no updates in a while - but I threw my back out (again). And having a difficult time sitting, standing, walking, laying, laughing and smiling.
