![]() Above from L-to-R are: perpetual baddie Charlie King at the desk, Eddie Dean, Lee Powell, and Glenn Strange, standing and wearing the eye shade in this lobby card from RAIDERS OF THE WEST (PRC, 1942). Some tidbits on Eddie Dean and Glenn Strange: Dean and Strange were good friends, and even collaborated on some songs together. Dean would have his own western series at PRC beginning in 1945, with the initial films done in CineColor and co-starring Al 'Lash' LaRue. Glenn Strange was a big, tall, supporting/bit player who was constantly working --- he was Butch Cavendish, the outlaw leader who murders the Texas Rangers in the initial 3 episodes of the LONE RANGER TV series. He was the barkeep for about a dozen years on TV's long-running GUNSMOKE with James Arness. And he also portrayed the Frankenstein monster in HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (Universal, 1944), HOUSE OF DRACULA (Universal, 1945) and ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (Universal, 1948). |
