Sam Newfield ... in the 1940s at PRC with Buster Crabbe, George Houston, Bob Livingston and the Frontier Marshal trio series.

Above is a duotone title lobby card for the re-release of BILLY THE KID'S FIGHTING PALS (PRC, 1941). Newfield helmed this one using his "Sherman Scott" pseudonym.

Above from left to right are George Chesebro, Bill "Cowboy Rambler" Boyd, Art Davis - with a neck hold on Glenn Strange - and Lee Powell on the stairs in the title lobby card from ROLLING DOWN THE GREAT DIVIDE (PRC, 1942). Note the "Directed by Peter Stewart" alias for Sam Newfield. This was one of the six 'Frontier Marshal' trio series. Not sure what went wrong here, but these half dozen are mundane, lifeless, boring.

Above is the title lobby card to BORDER ROUNDUP (PRC, 1942), one of the Lone Riders starring tall and melodious George Houston. On the left is Houston with the drop on I. Stanford Jolley. On the right is heroine Patricia Knox assisting the injured and tied up John Elliott. Notice the billing for Dennis Moore as "Smoky Moore".

Above is the title lobby card to WOLVES OF THE RANGE (PRC, 1943). Centered is Bob Livingston. On the left is I. Stanford Jolley and on the right is Jack Ingram. Note the B&W inset on the lower left --- that's Charles 'Slim' Whitaker (as "Pasha" the Swami) doing a bit with Al 'Fuzzy' St. John.

Livingston also had time to do a old, dark house mystery for Newfield - billed under his real name of Robert Randall, he battled George Zucco in THE BLACK RAVEN (PRC, 1943).

Above is the title lobby card from THE RENEGADE (PRC, 1943) and shows Buster Crabbe on the right sneaking up on Jimmy Aubrey (blue shirt) and screen veteran Jack Montgomery.

Above and right are pressbook ads for a couple of Buster Crabbe non-westerns, THE CONTENDER (PRC, 1944) and JUNGLE SIREN (PRC, 1942). Sam Newfield directed both.

Above is the title lobby card for THE FLYING SERPENT (PRC, 1946). This was among the last films done by Sigmund Neufeld and Sam Newfield during their time at PRC. Sam used his "Sherman Scott" alias for this picture. Hope Kramer and Ralph Lewis are on the left and George Zucco is on the right in this lobby card.

Newfield did four PRCs with Zucco: THE MAD MONSTER (PRC, 1942), THE BLACK RAVEN (PRC, 1943), DEAD MEN WALK (PRC, 1943) and THE FLYING SERPENT (PRC, 1946).
