Chief Yowlachie
Sometimes spelled as Yowlatchie

Above from L-to-R are Blue Cloud (in his only film?), Richard Arlen and a very young Chief Yowlachie (1891-1966) in SANTE FE TRAIL (1930).  Chief Yowlachie's real name was Daniel Simmons but he was a.k.a. Daniel Yowlatchie.  His film credits begin in the mid 1920s, doing Indian roles in silent oaters starring Tim McCoy and Ken Maynard, and he was still working circa 1960.  Yowlachie did 'offbeat' and different roles, and one that comes to mind is as the "King of the Rock people" in the serial, FLASH GORDON CONQUERS THE UNIVERSE (Universal, 1940). And I always smile when seeing (or remembering) Walter Brennan (as "Nadine Groot") in RED RIVER (1948), who loses his false teeth in a poker game to Chief Yowlachie (as "Quo") and has to borrow them to eat.

You may want to go to the In Search Of ... page on the Old Corral, and then to the California Death Records database.  There you will find a record for: Daniel Yowlachie, born 8/15/1891 in Washington, and he passed away on 3/7/1966. There is a corresponding record in the Social Security Death Index (SSDI).

Above from L-to-R are Frank Lackteen, Chief Yowlachie, Gene Autry and Chief Thunder Cloud (Victor Daniels) in a scene from Autry's INDIAN TERRITORY (1950).  Notice the difference in Yowlachie's face from the SANTE FE TRAIL photo (at the top of this webpage) which was filmed twenty years earlier.
