Chief Yowlachie
Sometimes spelled Yowlatchie

Above from L-to-R are Blue Cloud (in his only film?), Richard Arlen and a very young Chief Yowlachie (1891 - 1966) in SANTE FE TRAIL (1930).

Chief Yowlachie's real name was Daniel Simmons but he was AKA Daniel Yowlatchie. He was born in Kitsap County, Washington in 1891 and his Native American heritage was Puyallup.

His film work began in the mid 1920s, portraying Native Americans in silent oaters starring Tim McCoy and Ken Maynard ... and he was still working circa 1960.

He did offbeat and different roles, and one that comes to mind is Yowlachie as the "King of the Rock people" in the serial, FLASH GORDON CONQUERS THE UNIVERSE (Universal, 1940).

And I always smile when remembering Walter Brennan (as 'Nadine Groot') in RED RIVER (1948). Brennan loses his false teeth in a poker game to Chief Yowlachie (as 'Quo') and has to borrow them to eat.

You may want to go to the In Search Of ... page on the Old Corral, and then to the California Death Index. There you will find a record for Daniel Yowlachie, born 8/15/1891 in Washington, and he passed away on 3/7/1966. There is a corresponding record in the Social Security Death Index (SSDI).

Although some of the data is incomplete or inaccurate, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has information on Chief Yowlachie: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0950385/
